Club Thrive in Joy's Winter ESIPs

The joys of the season were in full swing at four of the high school campuses where Club Thrive in Joy student leads and dozens of student volunteers produced their winter ESIPs (Entrepreneurial Social Impact Project). These festive events impacted over 500 students and their families. Read on for highlights from each school’s event!

Esperanza College Prep

Club Thrive in Joy members partnered with The Book Truck, a local teen literacy nonprofit, to inspire students to discover books that match their personal interests. This engaging event encouraged students to explore new genres and discover or deepen their love of reading. This all-day event gave students in every English class the opportunity to take home a brand new book of their choosing.

East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy (ELARA)

Recognizing that many students in the community might be dreaming of new holiday attire, Club Thrive in Joy members at East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy (ELARA), hosted a stylish Pop-Up Thrift Shop with clothes donated by faculty, neighbors, and friends of Thrive in Joy. Clothing that was still on the rack when it was time for the no-cost boutique to close shop, were taken to a local family center along with donations of childrens’ clothing that students also collected. The event included a photo booth to capture the fashion in action!

USC Hybrid High College Prep

Club Thrive in Joy’s 4th Annual Winter Wonderland at USC Hybrid High was a magical event for over 150 students and their families. Club Thrive in Joy members started preparations for the event two weeks earlier with a cookie baking day at which nearly 500 cookies were baked and decorated at a commercial kitchen. A few days before the event, 30 student volunteers wrapped 63 gifts generously donated by USC Price faculty and staff to be given to the younger siblings of Hybrid High students. Attendees enjoyed hot cocoa with their holiday cookies, and spent time making Christmas decorations, posing with holiday-themed props in the photo-booth, and connecting with friends, family, and faculty. Santa and the elves were on duty to hand out the gifts and attendees were treated to a joyful performance by the National Dance Honors Society.

Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High School

While ASB students transformed a portion of campus into a series of food booths and activities, Club Thrive in Joy students partnered with The Book Truck to add to the festivities of Mohan’s annual Winter Festival. Club Thrive in Joy was responsible for transforming their portion of campus into a holiday book boutique, where students could browse and select a new book of their choosing…for free!  To add to the fun, students hosted a hot cocoa bar, and the fun continued with a photo booth sponsored by Club Thrive in Joy. Along with the strong sense of community, the event  was a perfect way to spread holiday cheer while giving students a book to take home for some holiday reading for fun!
